I’m Scrapbooking Everything We Do…

There are many wonderful artists out there. I discover at least two or three a week. They can be visual, literary, or musical. I especially love the musical one. I am finding new bands all. the. time.

Here are a few I like this week. It’s a pretty representative sample except they are all girls. That part is not on purpose.

Guitar virtuoso Kaki King:

Avant-garde indie musician St Vincent:

My wonderful, weird, Leslie Hall:

Ok! I know Leslie Hall is strange but I love her. She is just my kind of strange. She’s from Iowa. She came to Internet fame with her Gem Sweater Collection. The natural follow up to that? Record a hop-hop album of course. I don’t know why, but I love it. If you agree, here’s the remix.

I like Kaki King’s ‘Playing With Pink Noise’, she had a big showing a few years ago but tailed off lately, sadly enough. She was big on the latenight show circuit. Playing the guitar like a percussion instrument, good stuff.

I’m really cheering along Rodrigo y Gabriela and Monsieur LeRoc for indie music.

If you guys are so into Kaki King, we should go see Justin King at Cafe du Nord on Thursday. Her style is very similar to his, and I believe he’ll be playing his solo stuff that looks like this. It is amazing to watch live.

Leona, I wouldn’t say I’m “so into” her. I just discovered her yesterday. But yes, Justin King can play some mean guitar for sure. Like Kaki King, I like him best when he sticks to solo guitar and doesn’t sing. :p

Troy, I’ll check out Rodrigo y Gabriela and Monsieur LeRoc.
