Did I See A Whale? Find Out!

Despite living by the ocean my entire life, I have never seen a whale. It is supposed to be the height of whale season—they are migrating through right now—so on Saturday I went to Pt Reyes to see if I could find them. Here is that journey:

Hmm, here is the park. It is very green right now. I don’t see any whales though.

Hello Mrs. Deer. How’s the whale watching up there? Not many today, you say? That’s not a good sign.

Joy Lanzendorfer

Hmmm, nope.

Heyyouguyshaveyouseen…. Never mind…

Hey down there. You, elephant seals. Have you seen any whales?

Joy Lanzendorfer

Hi other people. Are you whale watching too? It’s hard, isn’t it?

JOy Lanzendorfer

Whales? Whaaaaales?

So there you have it. No whales for me. I did see: cows, seals, elk, quail, deer, seagulls, and an adorable baby person. So it was not a total loss.

i was about 200-300 ft from a humpback whale in santa cruz. i was a teenager – out fishing with my friend monty and his dad ron – and getting incredibly sick tossing around the ocean in a small outboard boat. then i looked up with bleary eyes and saw the big *pssssshtttt* spouting whale it came up, rose about 20 feet above the water and then arched its back and rolled back down into the water and then a few minutes later it rose it’s tail and made some wicked waves for us and we had to hold on for dear life as the waves radiated towards us, but it was very pretty. i didn’t feel /as/ sick after that, i think it took my mind off it… we fished, ate sandwiches and drank safeway root beer and had a good day once all was said and done.
