Robin, I'm glad someone else understands. And especially when you're dealing with dark colors--it's hard to get rid of them! What if I pick brown and then I want to go cream later on? That has to be, like, 400 buckets of primer, right? Or something like that.

Leona, I am sad the two existing lemon trees aren't meyer lemons, for both our sake. If they were, you could have as many as you like! (Possible housewarming gift, a meyer lemon bush?)

Krista, I thought about not looking at the names too. They do influence you. Coincidence or no: I gravitate to Martha Stewart paints, and she makes it impossible to not look at the names in her display. You know why I wanted "Writer's Parchment" paint? Because it's called Writer's Parchment!

It is difficult not to be tempted by pretty names or names of things that appeal to you. Take food for instance. I love pears and I also love artichokes. However, I do not like brussel sprouts so that color would automatically be ugly. I don't look at the names until after I have chosen the colors. One of the colors in my house is crisp celery. Really now? "crisp"?! What does celery look like when it's crisp vs. limp? T and I like contrast. Mixing a bright or a bold with a nuetral provides great contrast. When it comes down to it there is no right or wrong when your house is NOT on the market. Its all about making it livable for you. Coordinating is also important for purposes of flow. It is my beleif that if you go with your true style it will flow naturally. Another good tip is look at your paint in morning, afternoon, and evening light to make sure you will like it all day long. That is the great thing about pints. You'll spend a little bit but if you are going dark or feeling uneasy, it is best to start by buying a pint and putting it on your wall. Last tip, don't stress. Paint is relatively inexpensive and mistakes can be corrected.

Choosing a paint color is not only work, but intimidating. There are far too many options. In my quest to paint my bedroom, I've gone through at least half a dozen visits to Home Depot, ten times that many color swatches, and for my efforts, I have three crude squares painted on one wall. The colors are Broome, Prince, and Pomegranate. (Two light browns and a red). Even with those f'n squares painted on my wall, I STILL can't decide. You are right. Selecting paint colors is evil.

And so is running for no good reason.
