Jason-- Yeah, I completely agree about the bullet-point type of articles. Abstractly speaking, I like that The New Yorker has long content that takes some actual reading to get into. That is probably why my reaction makes me feel guilty--I'm always complaining about lack of content in magazines, and then, here is a magazine with content and I don't like reading it all that much. I think my dilemma would go away if they had better headlines, but that will never happen, so...

I agree, each week's New Yorker is a challenge -- nay, a complete disintegration of the success I felt at reading as much as I possibly could of the previous week's New Yorker. Subscribing to the New Yorker is like sitting in a boat with a leak. My goal (not always accomplished) is to read every non-fiction article that interests me, which tends to be anything that's not about an artist. The fiction and reviews are a lost cause.

But I do like that the New Yorker completely rebuffs the trends in most media -- easily digestible, short, up front about its main points, laid out like an advertisement. It staunchly holds on to the value of storytelling, which I appreciate even when it means I don't have time for it. When newspapers run stuff like bullet points above their articles, I am annoyed. Like, why even run the story at all? Why not just publish bullet points? Every day, we could have a list. Or flash cards. Bah.
